Midwifery

The health science and profession that deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and thus the postpartum period, additionally to the sexual and reproductive health of women throughout their lives is understood as Midwifery. In many countries, midwifery is a medical profession. Midwife is the term used for a professional in midwifery.

Recent review said that "most of the ladies should be offered midwifery-led continuity models of care and ladies should be encouraged to ask this feature although caution should be exercised in applying this recommendation to women with substantial medical or obstetric complications. “The review found that midwifery-led care was related to a offer within the use of epidurals, with fewer episiotomies or instrumental births, and a decreased risk of losing the baby before 24 weeks' gestation. However, midwifery-led care was also associated with an extended mean length of labor as measured in hours. The main areas of midwifery are pregnancy, childbirth, and midwifery –led continuity of care. The childbirth includes labor and delivery, birthing positions, postpartum period and care of newborn.
